voyage to mars

And so the travelling begins. Again. Wednesday afternoon, I leave for London; Monday morning, I'm off to - of all places - Las Vegas. I thoroughly dislike Vegas. "Vegas, baby!" me all you want, I find the place both disturbing and depressing. Armies of purple-haired women stuffing $1 tokens into one-armed bandits, over and over and over again; roving hordes of drunken conventioneers searching for cheap shrimp cocktails and expensive lap-dances; desperate family-men who lose their savings, and their sanity, at the blackjack table; a melting-pot of the very worst America has to offer. Yeah, I'm a killjoy, but the place honestly gives me the creeps. I like things that are real.

Speaking of real, Las Vegas will be followed by Los Angeles (L.A. exists in its own version of reality), Seattle, and San Francisco - all of which I enjoy visiting - although, unfortunately, I won't have the opportunity to stop by the most 'real' city of them all, New York, this time around. Time is a concern, and I need to get back to the team and the project as soon as possible. We have an incredibly tight schedule ahead of us.

Comments:
I live in Vegas and I love it. It's all in the eye of the beholder. I know a lot of people who live normal lives. Id like to think me included. What you see is mainly on the sprit, tho there are bars and machines everywhere, should someone wish to gamble. Its all up to the person. And the town being a bad place just because it offers the opportunity of gambling, please.

On a side note, new screenshots and information is up on Gamespy, including some sketches of Zoe. Sweet :)

Everytime someone says "new" screenshots I get excited, but every time they aren't. Maybe I'm just misreading the context and they mean new to them.

Where is the info at?

They are here.

And I believe you'll find they are not. (that new) (but perhaps more hi-res)

that high res 3d model looks absolutely gorgeous, will the ingame models look that way? maybe when she talks it zooms on her face :D as of today I thought half life 2 was the better looking game I saw, but here I see that it has some heavy contender in the adventure genre ;)

I was going to say that in my mind L.A. is the melting-pot of all the worst America has to offer, but then two sentences later, I read that you're hitting L.A. as well. So I guess it really doesn't matter which is worse, because you're going to be visiting both.

You have my deepest sympathies. ;D

I also live in Vegas, oddly enough. I agree with Ragnar that this place is absurdly disgusting from the outside looking in, especially since all you see is the disgusting strip. Not only do I live in Las Vegas, but I was born here as well. The casinos are filled with disgusting addicts caught in the worst of all ruts. If you really want to be disturbed go Downtown and walk around the outskirts of the Fremont Street Experience around midnight and fear for your life.

The city on the other hand is filled with normal people doing normal city things. The city is not too different then any other city and most of the citizens kind of ignore the glitzy touristy strip and avoid it at all costs.

The one great thing about the city is that it truly never sleeps and if you are a night owl you will have more fun in this place then in any other.

I feel sorry for you Ragnar that when and if you do come to Las Vegas it must be on some Convention circuit or something and you are only exposed to dark aspects of this fair city.

Either way, have fun doing whatever it is you’ll be doing in the states.

Yeah, why the trip? Something related to Dreamfall?

Las Vegas is a pretty good TV show. :D

Obligatory "Woo! San Francisco!"

:)

Incidentally, those Gamespy screens came from this feature at Adventure Gamers:

Place a chip for me Ragnar.

You're bound to be dragged along to some Casino, are you not?
