I'm all for progress, but it seems like DVD has just kicked off. But I guess it won't matter if Blu Ray is backwards compatible.

I don't like the article, the word "fanboy" comes to mind.

Using arguments about what content providers will support which standard when 70% aren't decided is hilarious.

In one paragraph saying you can't count things that haven't happened yet, then in the another saying 8-layer is a clear advantage is complete stupidity.

Using the fact blu-ray is already out in japan is a non-argument when the Blu-Ray that is here will not be the same Blu-Ray they are mentioning.

Sony confirming Blu-Ray would be used on the PS3 was not surprising.

Playing down the DVD Forum's aproval is a mistake, and using the arguement that Longhorn supporting HD DVD is not important when they use home electronics companies support is laughable.

The only important infomation that was in the article at all was that Blu-Ray now supports MPEG-4, so unlike before this, Blu-Ray can store more seconds of HD video than HD DVD. Before this although the lesser capacity the HD DVD was superior, now Blu-Ray is. So by using rough calculations in my head HD DVD can store 4.5 hrs, Blu Ray about 7.5 hrs.

Now they clearly don't know which will be cheaper to produce. HD-DVD people seem to think production will be cheaper because HD DVD follows DVD standards (which is why the DVD forum's approval was important).

Blu-Ray is superior now, HD DVD was a few months ago, and they are declaring Blu-Ray the victor, they were probably doing that since the start.

This type of journalism makes me sad, the internet is the last place to find facts, without any spin, and the only way to get proper news.
