The sun has 'turned' (well, not really; we realised some time ago that the sun isn't moving around the Earth, but rather that the Earth is moving around the sun, which makes the whole expression quite outdated), and the days are getting longer. Or, more accurately: Will get longer after today, because today happens to be the shortest - and darkest - day of the year. In olden days, the winter solstice was celebrated with a big feast, but in these enlightened times we, er, we celebrate Christmas with a big feast. The world really hasn't changed all that much, has it?
I'm
almost done with the shopping. Almost. Two or three presents left to go, and conveniently enough they are also the most difficult presents to buy. After spending a good five hours running in and out of crowded stores on what's been a chilly winter day, I've just about had enough, but I will need to enter the fray once more tomorrow morning and, if the gods are willing, be done with it.
Coffee now. Then blanket, couch, TV. I need to warm up and chill out. More later, probably.
