A few words about Blogger, the tool I'm using to write and post my "musings" here on (in?) Edgewise. Anyone with a website and a desire to share their thoughts with the world at large (or perhaps even just a few select friends) should try this thing out...it's brilliant. Click the link to the left and try it out yourselves. It's free, it's easy to use, and it's accessible from anywhere in the world. When I get around to leaving this dingy cubicle and go out there, out into the wide, wonderful world, I'll be able to keep you guys updated on all the
exciting and
fun things I'll (probably and hopefully) be doing. I'll share. I'll share, and gloat. And now you can too! With the help of Blogger, your every move and thought can be documented and distributed! Worldwide gloating (if that's your thing)! And remember kids, this ain't a paid advertisement; it's just fact. Blogger is probably the Best Thing Ever (top quote for their site, I should get paid for
that one).
Anyways. Been a while, but, come on, do you really except me to post
every single day? I don't have that much to say. Well, okay, I do, but there's such a thing as overdoing it, and it's important to leave your audience wanting... Besides, it'd be nice to actually having something
intelligent to say for once. So I'll try to think of something presently.
Uh...
Hmmm...
Okay, forget that "intelligent" bit...I'll just babble on like I usually do... Currently listening to Counting Crows and working on a design. I know I was pretty tough on the designing-bit the other day, and to be honest I was getting fed up. I'm not always that frustrated. Today I experienced first-hand the real joy of designing -- discussing (often loudly) with intelligent people the pluses and minuses of a particular idea, having to defend yourself, explaining why one thing would work and why another wouldn't... Trying to be original while recognising the necessity to follow some conventions, to make it easier for people to start playing and to learn quickly. Specifically -- well, I can't really be specific, but hey -- the challenges of constructing a new type of online game, something that borrows from the old but still reinvents. It's a challenge, and I can't deny it -- it's fun. It's challenging and fun. So by all means, don't listen to grumpy old Ragnar down there; go for it. This is still a new medium, and there's still room for lots of invention. The rules are flexible, to a certain degree. To a
large degree, in fact. And it's amazing how much is left to do, how much stuff hasn't been done yet, how many borders are left to cross and barriers to break.
We're just getting started, kids, and it's only gonna get better from here on in.
